Mike Lawton takes the plunge and decides to set up his own advertising agency. In the office above a laundrette on Southampton High Street, Lawton Advertising is born.
The agency wins its first big account - a full colour brochure for Norwegian American Cruise Line.
Lawton Advertising is joined by a sister agency LawtonWare, specialising in recruitment advertising and HR communications.
Out go the drawing boards. In come the Apple Macs. Cue sceptical looks/blind panic from designers and typesetters.
A true landmark for any agency, Lawton Advertising secures its first £1 million account – Calor Gas.
A third agency is born - Lawton New Media, which will go on to become Lawton eMarketing and a top ten UK digital agency.
